Marble Falls High School junior Madison Cuplin added two more District 24-4A championships April 9.

She won the 100 meters in 12.01 seconds, 42 seconds faster than the silver medalist, and the 200 meters in 24.45 seconds, a full second in front of the silver medalist.

The silver medalist was Salado senior Payton Ortega in 12.43 seconds and 25.65 seconds respectively.

“She executed at a very high level and competed in the way she always does — with confidence and composure,” head coach Brenda Gonzalez said. “She just missed breaking 12 again with a 12.01 and equaled her (personal record) of 24.45 in the 200.”

A day earlier, Cuplin added the district titles in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet and 7.5 inches and the triple jump with a mark of 41-7.

“The goal was to advance, and she did that in all four of her events – a four-time district champion once again,” Gonzalez said. “As the competition gets stronger, I know she’ll continue to rise to the occasion. Her mindset, belief and preparation set her apart.”

Cuplin won four individual district championships in 2025 and two in 2024, both in the horizontal jumping events. In all she has 10 individual district crowns.

Coming into the district meet this season, Cuplin had reset the program record in the triple jump when she and the Lady Mustangs competed at the Johnny “Lam” Jones Relays hosted by Lampasas March 26.

The previous record holder Tamara Coburn, a 1993 graduate, with a mark of 39-3.

“Maddie came close to it last year, but this season she completely shattered it with a jump of 43-1,” Gonzalez said. “It’s been incredible to watch her progress. She continues to raise the standard and has now added another event to the record books, bringing her total to four.”

“Just super proud of her,” said (Coburn) Carter, the mother of junior baseball player Grant Carter.

Cuplin holds the program records in the 100 meters with a time of 11.84 seconds, the 200 meters in 24.45 seconds, and the long jump with a mark of 20-11 all set at the Vikings Relays hosted by Lago Vista Feb. 26.

Four Lady Mustangs competed on the varsity team with two advancing to the District 23 and 24-4A area meet. Joining Cuplin is Brenna Wilde, who was fourth in the high jump with a flop of 4-8.

In the junior varsity division, the Lady Mustangs placed third overall with 114 points.

Gonzalez believes better days are coming for the sport thanks to sophomore sprinter Adriana George, hurdler Shaylea Alley, distance runners Sapana Khatri and Graci Nelson and Katerina Moseley and thrower Lyndee Saunders, who are all freshmen.

Silver medals went to Khatri in the 800 meters, Moseley in the 1,600 meters, Nelson in the 3,200 meters, and Alley in the 100-meter hurdles, and George and Saunders took bronze in the 400 meters and the high jump, respectively. Saunders won gold in the discus, while Shey was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

“Our JV group finishing third is very encouraging,” Gonzalez said. “We have strong potential across the board. I’m excited about the future of this group.”

The District 23 and 24-4A area meet is Wednesday, April 15, at Lorena High School.
